It's not really part of the 'Pure Michigan' campaign and it may be one of the quirkiest places in Michigan. It's well worth a stop if you're nearby.
A man named George Reeves moved here in the 1830s and established a gristmill, a sawmill, a tavern, and a distillery. There are many theories, and no agreement, on how this place was named. But named Hell it was in 1841.
Some people actually come here to get married - gutsy.
The grounds include a view of a river, and a fence complete with love locks.
There's a small, strange 'sculpture' park that you don't want to miss :-)
We lunched in the restaurant and it was surprisingly good. Blue gill was the special.
There is a post office in Hell. (The U.S. Postal Service doesn't recognize Hell as a town but there is a seasonal postal substation here.) and after the gift store clerk singes your postcard, you can mail it to your friends. You can also pick up a two dollar bill and other weird things.

It's a quick roadside stop and perfect for a lunch break. The property has been up for sale in the past and people have also been able to purchase a square inch of Hell at times. It has to be one of weirdest Roadside Attractions in Michigan, so don't miss it 😉
