The U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship
Commissioned in 1941, the ship participated in every major naval
offensive in the Pacific during World War II.
It was decommissioned in 1947 and sentenced to the scrap heap
in 1958. North Carolina citizens led a successful campaign to save
the ship and return it to North Carolina.

In 1962, the ship was dedicated in North Carolina as a
memorial to WWII vets and to the 10,000 North
Carolinians who died in the war.

Cross Creek, loaded with Revolutionary War History
The bridge marks the site where Highland Scots were defeated
by U.S. Patriotsin 1776. In 1778, Cross Creek was again the scene
of a battle between U.S.Patriots and English Loyalists, In 1781,
North Carolina's most notorious Tory, David Fanning, raided
Cross Creek and captured several Patriots.

and we experienced only a portion of it in this first visit.
