Antelope Slot Canyon ~ 9/27/13

This was our last full day in Page, Arizona, and we spent a few hours touring Antelope Slot Canyon. It was beautiful. And other than our tour guide informing us that they occasionally get 5 minute warnings to vacate due to flash floods, it was a worthwhile trip. Here are some canyon photos.

The tour was a little clogged with other tours, and hearing about the five minute flash flood warning made us panic a little as we headed back through the canyon to the parking lot but we survived and took the dusty jeep ride back to live another day. What an amazing place!

Our third visit to the Grand Canyon was the best yet.

The famous Bright Angel Trail.

John Wesley Powell took the first expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers in 1869 when no one knew what one would encounter. He has a memorial, which is fitting. 

It's great to catch a view of the Colorado River from the rim.

We had been to the Grand Canyon in 2007 but to the West Rim. There were no guard rails or protections to protect people from themselves. We scared ourselves silly walking on this outcrop and finding ourselves at times six inches from the edge, and we quickly left.

This is also the place where the controversial air bridge resides. Our tour bus took us past it and we were informed that if we stopped to take photos we would be charged a photo fee. So I snapped this from the moving bus.

Now it's 2013 and we're at the South Rim. Here are a few pictures of the canyon from this view.

There may be guard rails here and there but risk-takers still climb down beyond them. These two are watching their wives/girlfriends standing down below in a very brisk wind.

The Desert View Watchtower was built in 1932 and affords great views, and a gift shop 😉

We will never do the river raft trip through the Grand Canyon but we will visit again.
