The church was built in 1949, the cross was placed here in 1954, and the 28 foot tall sculpture was attached to the cross in 1959. Regardless of your religious beliefs, this is quite something to see (photos from 2016).
The place was declared a national shrine in 2006.

Inside there are a whole lot of dolls and costumes, which were not our favorite things.
But this lovely place in the woods is unique and meditative for anyone.
